Tempered glass for deck railings is available in a variety of thicknesses, and the common ones are as follows:
6mm (1/4 inch):
This thickness is suitable for low-height railings or narrow-span railings in relatively calm and sheltered areas. For example, in some private gardens with low-level deck railings that are not exposed to strong winds, 6mm tempered glass can meet the basic safety and usage requirements.
8mm (5/16 inch):
It is a bit thicker than 6mm glass and can be used in situations where the railing height is slightly higher or the span between posts is a bit larger than what 6mm glass can handle. It provides slightly more strength and stability.
10mm (3/8 inch):
This thickness is commonly used in many standard residential deck railing applications. It can withstand a certain amount of wind force and is suitable for railings of moderate height and span. For instance, in most two - or three-story residential buildings, 10mm tempered glass is a popular choice for deck railings.

12mm (1/2 inch):
According to relevant Chinese standards, when the railing glass bears horizontal loads, the nominal thickness of the tempered glass should not be less than 12mm. This thickness of glass is widely used in both residential and commercial deck railings, especially in areas where there are higher requirements for wind resistance and safety, such as high-rise building balconies or deck railings in windy coastal areas.
15mm and 19mm:
These thicker thicknesses are usually required for special-case scenarios, such as very tall deck railings, large-span railings in public places, or in areas with extremely high wind loads. They can provide extremely high strength and stability, but they are also relatively more expensive and heavier.
