Tinted and Reflective Glass

A: Tinted glass is body-colored during float glass production, so the color runs through the entire glass rather than sitting only on the surface. Common options include bronze, dark bronze, Euro grey, mist grey, dark grey, French green, dark green, Ford blue and dark blue, subject to thickness and production availability.

A: Reflective glass is clear or tinted float glass with a reflective coating applied to one surface. The coating changes exterior appearance, light transmission, solar control and daytime privacy. Coating color, surface position and performance should be selected for the complete glazing design.

A: Online reflective glass receives a hard coating during float production. The coating is durable, less likely to be damaged and is generally easier to store, process and use as monolithic glazing. Offline soft coating is applied after float production and can offer different performance or appearance, but it is more delicate and can be scratched or damaged more easily, so it normally requires protected handling and use inside an IGU.

A: Tinted glass obtains its color from the glass body and has no separate reflective surface layer. Reflective glass obtains its reflective appearance from a coating on clear or tinted glass. Tinted glass offers stable through-body color, while reflective glass provides stronger reflection and additional solar-control options.

A: Many products can be cut, tempered, laminated or assembled into insulated glass units, subject to glass and coating compatibility. Different colors and specifications may be combined in one order where production, packing and container loading allow. Samples should be approved before large color-sensitive projects.
