AG glass parameters - gloss

Jun 20, 2019

To understand the AG glass, we must first understand the parameters of the glass. Glossiness is one of the important parameters. The so-called glossiness indicates the extent to which the surface of the object is close to the mirror surface. The higher the gloss, the closer the glass surface is to the mirror surface. The main purpose of AG glass is to prevent glare, and the main principle of producing anti-glare is diffuse reflection. The main indicator for measuring diffuse reflection is gloss.

1. What is the use of measuring gloss?

Gloss is an aspect of visual perception that is defined as "surface properties" that give the AG glass a glossy, textured appearance. The gloss of the etched AG glass surface is related to many factors, such as the length of etching time, material properties, and so on.

Gloss is an important indicator of etched AG glass inspection. Hengyi AG glass gloss range can be controlled to between 15-135, usually between 15-45GU is the range of the whiteboard of the electronic whiteboard, between 50-90GU is the gloss of conventional electronic products, more than 90GU is The gloss of the car glass.

Second, how to measure the gloss?

To measure the gloss, we generally use a gloss meter. The gloss meter has a domestic table and an imported meter. Therefore, the measurement parameters of different brands are inaccurate. If both parties need parameters, they must explain with the customer.

Third, how to choose the right measurement angle?

I have encountered a customer who has just contacted the AG glass and tested the AG glass at three angles to get three values. In fact, it is equally important to choose a suitable detection angle. Overall: 85° is measured below 10GU, 60° is measured for 10-60GU, and 20° is measured for 60GU or more.

Medium gloss (universal angle): 60°

60° is the measurement angle for all surfaces. It is also used as a reference angle for low gloss 85°, high gloss 20° surface measurement. Generally, the gloss angle of the constant AG glass is measured by a 60° angle.

Low gloss: 85°

In order to improve the resolution of low gloss surfaces. The gloss can be measured at 85°. When the surface gloss value of the object is less than 10 GU measured with 60°, it is recommended to use the 85° angle to measure. When measuring different gloss textures or slightly uneven surfaces with 85°, multi-point measurements are taken to average them.

High gloss: 20°

A 20° measurement angle increases the resolution of high gloss surfaces. When measuring the surface gloss value of an object above 60° with 60°, it is recommended to use a 20° angle to measure. The 20° angle (optical path) is very sensitive to the haze phenomenon on the surface of the object. Because fog is a phenomenon unique to high-gloss surfaces.
