What Is SGP Laminated Glass?

SGP Laminated Glass is a high-grade structural laminated safety glass, also known as structural ionoplast interlayer glass.
Instead of traditional plastic PVB film, it uses solid ionoplast polymer SGP (SentryGlas Plus) as the core interlayer, sandwiched between two or multiple tempered/heat-strengthened glass panels under high temperature and autoclave pressure to form an integrated structural glazing panel.
Core Properties of SGP Interlayer
- Ionoplast material: High tensile stiffness, rigid solid structure, far harder and stronger than soft PVB plastic film
- Structural interlayer feature: The interlayer itself shares structural load together with glass sheets, not only holding broken fragments
- Permanent structural performance: Maintains full barrier rigidity even if both glass layers fully crack, the whole panel will not collapse or sag

How Does SGP Work?
The unique ionoplast SGP interlayer delivers superior structural performance via three key mechanical advantages:
Ultra-High Stiffness
SGP ionoplast material has 100x higher hardness and 5x tensile strength than PVB. It will not deform under heavy vertical and lateral load, providing stable overall structural rigidity
for large-size glass panels.
Extreme Tear & Impact Strength
When facing strong collision, hurricane wind impact or heavy load, SGP interlayer tightly locks all broken glass fragments without tearing or separating, maintaining complete safety barrier integrity.
Minimal Deflection Under Load
Compared with soft PVB that produces obvious sagging and deflection under large panel self-weight, SGP laminated glass keeps flat with tiny bending deformation, perfectly meeting structural glazing design standards for frameless systems and glass floors.

Why Choose SGP Structural Laminated Glass?
Hurricane & Extreme Wind Resistance
Rigid SGP interlayer resists strong hurricane-level wind loads, the top choice for coastal high-rise and storm-prone area exterior glazing.
01
Heavy Structural Load Bearing
Shares vertical & lateral structural force with glass sheets, applicable for load-bearing glass floors, glass walkways and overhead glass canopies.
02
Extra Large Frameless Panels
Minimal deflection under self-weight, enables ultra-wide seamless frameless balustrades, curtain walls and skylights without intermediate support frames.
03
Superior Post-Breakage Safety Integrity
Even double glass layers fully shatter under heavy impact, SGP interlayer keeps the whole panel upright without collapse, eliminating falling glass hazards for public high-traffic spaces.
04
Long-Term Reliable Edge Stability
Outstanding moisture & UV resistance, no edge delamination or yellowing after decades of outdoor exposure, reduces later maintenance cost for landmark buildings.

FAQ
Q1: Why choose SGP laminated glass instead of standard PVB?
A1: SGP uses rigid ionoplast structural interlayer with far higher stiffness, moisture resistance and load-bearing capacity. It keeps panels upright after breakage, supports large frameless spans and suits long-term exterior hurricane-prone projects, while soft PVB only meets basic indoor safety demands without structural performance.
Q2: Can SGP structural laminated glass be fully exposed outdoors?
A2: Yes. SGP interlayer features excellent UV and waterproof performance, no edge delamination or yellowing after long-term outdoor exposure, perfectly adapted to coastal, high-humidity and storm-prone open-air environments. Standard PVB is not recommended for permanent exterior structural glazing.
Q3: Is SGP laminated glass fully waterproof?
A3: The ionoplast SGP interlayer itself is highly moisture-resistant. With proper polished edge sealing processing, SGP glass can withstand long-term rain, sea salt fog and high humidity without layer separation.
Q4: Does SGP laminated glass delaminate over time?
A4: Under qualified edge sealing & normal construction environment, SGP almost never delaminates. Its solid ionoplast material absorbs negligible moisture, compared with PVB film which easily absorbs water and separates at edges after years of outdoor use.
Q5: When is SGP structural laminated glass required by building codes?
A5: SGP is mandatory for projects requiring structural load bearing: glass floors, glass bridges, oversized frameless balustrades, hurricane-resistant coastal facades, high-rise exterior curtain walls and overhead load-bearing skylights, where standard PVB laminated glass fails structural safety standards.
