Wired Glass Introduction

Jun 20, 2023

What is wired glass and what is the application?

Wired glass is often used for fire-rated applications because it is a type of safety glass that provides protection against flames and heat. The wire mesh embedded in the glass helps to hold the glass together when it is subjected to thermal stress, which helps to prevent it from breaking and potentially causing injury or allowing flames to spread. In addition, wired glass can also satisfy building code requirements for fire resistance, making it a popular option for doors, partitions, and windows in areas where flames and smoke are likely to be present, such as stairwells and hallways.

Wired glass is a type of safety glass that is created by embedding an opaque metal wire mesh between two layers of glass during the manufacturing process. This wire mesh makes the glass stronger and ensures that the glass stays intact even when it breaks, preventing it from shattering into sharp shards that could injure people.

Wired glass is commonly used in applications where safety is a concern, such as in fire-rated doors, windows, and skylights. It is also used in areas where impact resistance is important, such as in schools, hospitals, and other public buildings. However, wired glass has some limitations, such as reduced visibility and aesthetics due to the wire mesh, and it may not meet certain safety codes in some areas.

Migo also has different types of decorative glass for usage like below:
