What is Curved Tempered Laminated Glass?

Curved tempered laminated glass is a high-performance safety glass that combines tempering and laminating processes to create a strong, curved glass panel with enhanced durability and security.

 

Tempered curved glass is a type of safety glass. Flat glass is heated and softened in a tempering furnace, then bent into shape using a mold, and finally rapidly cooled (tempered) to produce strong, durable, and shatter-resistant curved glass. This type of glass is commonly used in architectural applications such as curved walls, windows, railings, and bathrooms.

 

Composition:

• • Outer Layers: Two or more sheets of tempered glass, heat-treated for strength.

  • Interlayer: A PVB (Polyvinyl Butyral) or EVA (Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate) film for bonding and impact resistance.

Key Features:

• • Safety: If broken, glass fragments adhere to the interlayer, preventing injury.

  • Strength: Tempering increases impact resistance (4-5x stronger than annealed glass).

  • Custom Shapes: Can be bent into single-curved, double-curved, or free-form designs.

 

 

 

Step 1: Glass Cutting & Edging

Flat glass is cut to size and edges are polished.

Step 2: Heating & Bending

Glass is heated to 600–700°C in a curved tempering furnace and shaped using molds or rollers.

Step 3: Tempering (Rapid Cooling)

 The bent glass is rapidly cooled with high-pressure air jets to enhance strength.

Step 4: Lamination Process

• PVB/EVA Interlayer Insertion: A plastic film is placed between two curved tempered glass panels.

• Pre-Pressing: Heated to remove air bubbles.

• Autoclaving: High pressure (12–14 bar) and heat (140°C) fuse the layers permanently.

Step 5: Quality Testing

• Impact resistance (EN 12600)
• Optical clarity & distortion check
• UV stability & edge sealing test
