Why Choose Laminated Glass?

What is laminated glass?

Laminated glass is a type of safety glass constructed from two or more glass sheets bonded together with an interlayer, typically PVB (a kind of film made by polyvinyl butyral). This creates a strong, unified structure that offers unique safety benefits compared to ordinary glass.

How is laminated glass manufactured?

  • Glass Preparation: Two or more sheets of glass (often annealed or tempered) are cut to the required size. And then thoroughly cleaned by removing dust from the glass surface.

  • Interlayer Placement: A sheet of PVB interlayer is placed between the glass sheets, holding the glass together.

  • Deairing: The glass-interlayer stack is fed through a roller press or vacuum bag to squeeze out air bubbles and ensure the interlayer makes close contact with the glass surfaces. This prevents gaps that could reduce strength.

  • Pre-Bonding: The assembly is heated (around 70–100°C) in an oven or with heated rollers. This softens the interlayer, allowing it to partially adhere to the glass and seal remaining small air pockets.

  • Final Bonding: The stack is placed in an autoclave-a high-pressure, high-temperature chamber. Here, heat (120–140°C) melts the interlayer, and pressure (10–15 bar) forces it to fully bond with the glass, creating a single, unified panel.

What are the advantages of using laminated glass?

  • Enhanced Safety
  • When broken, the interlayer holds shattered glass pieces in place
  • Prevents dangerous shards from falling or scattering
  • Maintains structural integrity even after cracking

  • Durability & Security
  • Resistant to impacts, making forced entry more difficult
  • Withstands temperature changes and weather conditions
  • Performs well in both indoor and outdoor environments

  • Additional Benefits
  • Sound insulation: Reduces noise transmission between spaces
  • UV protection: Blocks up to 99% of harmful UV rays, preventing furniture fading
  • Design versatility: Available in various colors, tints, and finishes
  • Glare reduction: Tinted options improve comfort in bright conditions
